The National Urban League released its annual report on Tuesday. The report states that blacks in America are trailing whites in key areas such as wealth, education and social justice. According to the civil rights group, their Equality Index, which compiles the average results for races across a variety of areas, showed that Black Americans still get 73.9 percent less than whites despite having made health and economic improvements. It is a sign of the difficulty for people of colour to overcome systemic racism, the organisation said. These numbers are shifting slowly and with little. This tells me that the racial disparity in society based upon race seems to have been ingrained in American society," Marc Morial, President of the National Urban League, stated. The study found that blacks have an average household income of $43,862, which is 37% lower than whites, who earn $69,823. Black Americans are more likely to not be able to take advantage of homeownership which is the primary source of US generational wealth. Census data show Black couples are more than two times more likely than white counterparts to not be able to get the mortgage or home improvement loan. This is a mere 59 % of the home equity that median white households possess, and just 13 percent of their wealth. Morial said that there has been virtually no change in the area of wealth since civil rights. "The inequality of wealth has grown more pronounced." One health measure that stands out is: Black Americans have a lower life expectation than whites. The average baby born today could have an average of 74.7-year lifespan, which is four years lower than a child born in the past. There are also lifelong differences: Black women are 59 percent more likely than white women to have children, and 31 percent more likely to breast cancer. Black males have a 52 percent higher chance die of prostate cancer. This report comes almost two years after the country was confronted with racism following the murder of George Floyd. Floyd was an Black man who was brutally beaten to death by a white police officer during an arrest in Minneapolis. Floyd's death ignited nationwide protests and calls for equality and an end to the brutality of police against Black people. Although some states tried to improve the way police are policing was conducted following the deaths of unarmed Black men, the report found that blacks were twice as likely to be threatening or used force by police officers than whites. You can get more details on community by browsing black restaurants website. They are three times more likely than others to be arrested and sentenced. They were 93% more likely to become victims of hate crime in 2020. Educational gaps abound: Black and white preschoolers are nearly equally well-prepared, but their classrooms are starkly different. Schools with more minority students are more likely to have unexperienced, poorly qualified and sometimes non-certified teachers. Fewer of these students enroll in STEM classes that could result in higher-paying jobs. Black students are more likely not to complete colleges. People of all races are affected by drug overdoses roughly equally. However, whites are five times more likely to die of chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. For those between 15 and 24, white people are more than twice as likely to die by suicide, while Black men are nine times more likely to be killed in suicide.
